We were all very excited on the arrival of a new restaurant in the NW3 area - they promised to use organic and seasonal produce, and that's not something we really have in the area (they can't commit themselves to being 100% organic in case there's a spice or odd ingredient they can't source organically, but they are largely organic).
The owner of the restaurant is the husband of a Hampstead Mum, so we helped with the choice of the logo. I also had a chat with the owner about how I can help with Social Media, and we held the Hampstead Life Christmas Party there. So you see, I was very excited about trying the food.
We went there for our early Christmas dinner (my brother is a pilot and won't be around on Christmas Day). We were 6 adults, a child and a baby on a Thursday evening. They went out of their way to give us a nice table for the buggy which we appreciated (we only eat out during the early evening so as not to get in the way of other diners).
The menu wasn't extensive, which is great as I don't like to flick through pages (also you know it's easier for restaurant to ensure they always have fresh produce). Most of us opted for the Mussels, but we tried the chicken rilletes too. The mussels came with a flavoursome sauce, and was given the thumbs up by my dad (who worked as a chef for over 30 years before retiring a couple of years ago).
After a day of travelling, we all went for a meaty course. We were surprised by how big the portions were and actually couldn't finish all the food. We are a family of big eaters, so this came as a surprise. The meat was cooked well, and the creamy potato was delightful. I did order the slow cooked chicken (not something I see on the menu much), but I do think next time I would go for steak or lamb shank (i was stealing food from the others anyway, we eat Chinese style and like to share).
My favourite part of the meal was the dessert course. The chocolate fondant with salted caramel ice cream had my name written all over it. At £12 a pop, it was a bit pricey so we shared it. It was awesome though, with a warm oozey middle. I'll be back for sure, for that alone.
